I am a morning person. I love the freshness of a new day and post-meditation vibes.
I like to wash my face, brush my teeth, get dressed and take my dog for his morning walk. It’s nice to get a little sunshine and fresh air first thing in the AM.
Honestly, I believe morning rituals are the foundation of my happiness. Like if If I don’t follow my routine, I feel… off.
Lately, I’ve been loving smoothies for breakfast. They’re just so damn easy. Throw a bunch of shit in a blender and voila!
Since I’ve eliminated added sugars and high fructose fruits from my diet it’s been a little bit of a struggle to find a smoothie that tastes good without all of the sweetness. It’s taken a little adjusting to.
The smoothie I’m sharing today is my current favorite that tastes really great without all the sweetness, but if you need some extra sweet add a half of a banana or swap some almond milk for coconut water.
- 1/2 cup frozen organic blueberries
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1/4 cup light culinary coconut milk (it adds creaminess)
- 2 tablespoons collagen (for protein)
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds (omega-3s)
- a few shakes of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon MCT oil (optional)
- 3 or 4 ice cubes
I just blend it all up on high-speed, pour it into a glass and breakfast is served.
The smoothie is full of health benefits like…
-antioxidants from blueberries
-omega-3s, calcium, and fiber from chia seeds
-protein and other amazing beauty benefits from collagen powder (check out Wellness Mama’s post about it, she’s one of my favorite bloggers and I’m not even a mom)
-cinnamon helps stabilize blood sugar
-MCT oil gives me energy
Let me know what you think. Do you prefer sweet or not so sweet smoothies?
